What is Maintenance History?
Maintenance history is the record of maintenance work performed on an asset over time—work orders, PM completions, parts used and outcomes. It is used for troubleshooting, trend analysis, warranty and compliance. CMMS stores maintenance history per asset.
What it means
Complete maintenance history supports better decisions and audits. It is built from closed work orders and PM records linked to each asset.
Why it matters
- History is the chronological record of work on an asset.
- It includes what was done, when, by whom and what parts were used.
- Used for root cause analysis, lifecycle decisions and audits.
- CMMS builds history automatically from work orders linked to assets.
Example in maintenance operations
Pump A: 15 work orders in the last year—10 PM, 5 corrective. History shows bearing replaced twice; trend may justify redesign or different PM.
